The goal of Thanksgiving Basket Day of Service is to provide Thanksgiving baskets to grandparents assisting in raising their grandchildren, senior adults receiving services through the Doolittle Active Adult Program and adults raising their siblings at Foster Kinship. This year, the committee was tasked with extending the program's impact in the community by also providing Thanksgiving Baskets to chapter members in need, families in the local schools and families in the CHIPP program.
The Thanksgiving Baskets Day of Service extended over a 2-day period. The first day, Friday November 22, 2024 was kicked off with picking food from two separate locations; Smith's Food and Drugstore and The Salvation Army. All of the items were transported to the Doolittle Active Adult Center where volunteers were present to help set up the tables and chairs as well as unload the food items and pack the baskets for distribution the following day. On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Thanksgiving Baskets Day of Service was conducted as a drive-thru event. Volunteers assisted with setting up the event, greeting volunteers and families, loading the baskets in cars, checking in participants and volunteers and directing traffic.
